Exploring Figurative Sculpture With Eduardo Gomez Rojas Worshop I The human head & making a portrait in water based clay call for dates 9:00am-12:00am - 1:00pm-5:00pm (35 hours) Open to 6 to 10 students $350 per student + Model fees, Tools & Supplies
Figurative sculptor Eduardo Gomez will teach a series of intensive weeklong Workshops. I The human head and making a portrait in water based clay II The human body and making a figure sculpture in oil based clay III Taking a sculpture from clay to bronze IV Exploring figurative sculpture in other media
I The human head and making a portrait in water based clay The first workshop will focus on the human head and we will learn to sculpt in water based clay. Each student will be expected to finish at least one portrait. Although it would be ideal if each student could do a child, an adult and an old person, this objective may be too ambitious, and I don’t want to take the fun out of the class. The portrait (or portraits), will be fired in a kiln. If time allows, we will discuss pedestal designs and materials and mount the sculptures. This workshop will provide the student with hands on experience in working with water-based clay. We will start by making a skull and the facial and neck muscles to get an understanding of the surface anatomy of the face. We will then learn how to make a rough likeness of a subject by focusing on the general shape, the proportions and the planes of the face. We will then learn some finishing techniques. If time allows we will explore differences in features based on age and race.
